Members shared deeply personal experiences about chemotherapy for lung cancer, with responses ranging from those who tolerated treatment relatively well with manageable side effects to those who experienced severe reactions including nausea, extreme fatigue, mouth sores, heart palpitations, hair loss, and lasting complications from prior treatments. Several members emphasized practical coping strategies such as staying hydrated with water and ginger products, using medications like anti-nausea drugs and Enterade for digestive issues, communicating openly with oncology teams about symptoms, and pacing activities with rest periods. A recurring theme was that treatment affects everyone differently, but maintaining a positive attitude, relying on strong support systems, and focusing on quality of life help members push through the hardest days while celebrating stable scans and extended survival milestones.

I'm midway through radiation, 15 treatments with 15 more to go. And in two rounds chemo. Carboplatin but since nationwide shortage they switched me to cisplatin which really made me nauseous. For several days I lost the battle on that but day three came out feeling like I could eat broth and go for a walk. I have no idea what's ahead. Scares me honestly. Sometimes I wonder if I can get through all this but then like human nature, I just change gears and keep fighting.

Absolutely Gary, treatment for each of us is totally different as well as our treatment symptoms. I just finished my last round of Chemo March 22.... I know my symptoms were less than others and yes for me the fatigue was the worst for I'm usually an active person. VickieCrowsonThoma, besides the fatigue I had nausea but my doctor gave me meds that helped, I had days of brain fog, some sort throat, night sweats, lose bowels, but what bothered me mostly was the heart palpitations...my heart was racing anywhere from 100- 130s along with shortness of breath. My Dr. Instantly scheduled me for CTA to check for blood clots as well as EKG and echocardiogram which all came back as normal. I've had no symptoms of anything the last 12 days and feel great.
Discuss all you systems with your oncologist and hopefully as I do you have a great support system with their team. And yes, this site is awesome with others that's either been or currently going thru treatment. It great having others who has experienced to talk to.
Welcome to the site and never feel any questions is not important to ask anyone.

The most difficult question for anyone of us to answer is when someone asks me how hard is chemotherapy or surgery or immunotherapy. All treatments effect everyone different the only thing we can do is tell them our own personal experience’s.But the great thing about this site is no matter how your body handles the treatments the people on this site ALWAYS SUPPORT you and your personal decisions and that in its self helps so much.
Even on your worst day someone on this site will always put a smile on your face.😍😍

I did carbo/tax/keytruda after a lobectomy. It was terrible. The surgery was easier to recover from. Still suffering from side effects of the chemo/immuno. Not sure if I would do it again.

Thought I was doing great for the first week after, then starting getting mouth sores. They gave me medication which really helped, but nauseousness set in, as well as really bad fatigue. Hard to push myself to take a walk! Am feeling better this week just before my next cycle , but am noticing my hair shedding. Haven't gotten my blood tests yet and will be interested to see if I'm anemic. Eating mainly baked potatoes or rice which helps . I usually give in to the fatigue and try to walk around the house and do stretching exercises. Hope your doing well thru yours! Hugs!
