My oncologist wanted to start my Keytruda infusions before I had my port put in. I have to admit it wasn't the most pleasant experience. Between treatments, I had the port put in. What a difference! I admit I'm not fond of needles, but having the port, and using a little lidocaine makes blood drawing and infusions so much easier!
Thank you! Port will be put on a week after my first round of chemo. I guess better late than never,,!
I had a port put in after my first round of chemo because it took a couple tries to get an IV going each time. You don’t have to get one but it makes each treatment faster to get going. I’m glad I got one. Sent from Pam’s iPhone
Hey Sandra: Yes, I had my chemo without a port. It was the decision of the oncologist. There are pros and cons either way.
I was able to complete my chemo without any major problems with the placement of the IV's . I know it's hard, but try to take your treatment one day at a time. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Take care.
How long before the port is “generally “ replaced?
