Great advice, Thank you. I walk for an hour at an incline of 2.5 at 3 mph. I am hoping to get my lungs in the best of shape before going under the knife.

Exercise is good...as tolerated. Continue with your breathing exercises multiple times a day. Unless instructed otherwise by you doctor, walking is a great exercise. Depending on your endurance, you may want to start walking around your house, up and down driveway, or up and down your street. Gradually build up until it's worth your while to go to the gym for the treadmill. If 0 is the exertion laying in bed doing nothing and 10 is climbing Mt Everest, it is generally considered to work out at a 4-6 level based on your perception of effort. Do not over do, pace yourself, rest as needed. If it's getting over a 5 or 6 slow down your pace or stop and rest. If it drops below a 4, pick up the pace. Talk to your doctor about when you can use weights or resistance machines. Clearance for that can vary depending on your specific surgery. If people at the gym are coughing and sneezing, etc leave. You don't need their germs. Wipe down whatever equipment that you are going to touch. COVID seems to be on the rise again. One day at a time. Best

I am almost 10 months post op. Still trying to increase my walking duration. I still have some nerve discomfort at the bottom of my rib cage. It feels bruised a lot of the time.

Talk to your surgeon about what you have done prior to surgery and what you what to do now. After my lobectomy, my surgeon was more concerned about Incisions and lifting things. I got a bike for home and “moved’”on it after 3 weeks, a little everyday, a little harder or longer each week….I returned to the gym working with weights and bodyweight exercises after 3 months. I also highly agree about the gym; the #1 place for germs.

I was walking 3 miles a day prior to surgery for the same purpose. Haven't made it back to 3 yet, maybe at 2 miles now. I did have a setback of 2 fractured ribs (same side as surgery) from coughing too hard!.
