Members shared widely different experiences with hunger during cancer treatment, with many describing becoming ravenously hungry despite nausea, often craving simple foods like sandwiches, crackers, cheese, and carbs, and several gaining 5 to 10 pounds during chemo. The most common culprit identified was steroids, particularly Dexamethasone, which caused intense hunger that subsided once the medication was tapered off, though some members continued experiencing increased appetite during immunotherapy treatments like Keytruda. A recurring theme was the unpredictability of treatment side effects, with members experiencing everything from constant hunger and weight gain to severe nausea and malnourishment, and the importance of listening to your body and eating what feels right in the moment.

We certainly all have different experiences. While on chemo alone I was sick as a dog; actually became malnourished. With radiation/chemo together absolutely no nausea and basically had a normal appetite. Now that all is behind me while I wait for a PET scan next month, I am ravished. Making up for lost time and having to lock the kitchen!

I was on steroids during much of that time (also due to a brain met) and was always hungry even on the days when I had nausea from chemo. It did pass once I finally tapered off the Dexamethasone, but I remember that feeling.

Yes, when I was on chemo despite how sick I was I had to keep something on my stomach. This sounds gross but I would vomit at first like I emptied my system out and then be able to eat. I mainly wanted sandwiches or cheese and crackers. I ended up gaining weight on chemo.

I have had radiation, chemo, and immuno therapy. Now only on immuno therapy. I have been very lucky I never got nausea, vomiting or loss of appetite. I am eating much healthier but about the same amount as I did before treatments. I have gained about 5 pounds but I am very small so for me it is a good thing .
