I'm on SSDI for my cancer.
Being diagnosed as "Terminal" put me on a fast track with the SSA.
It took about 7 weeks versus the usual 245 days in California.
I didn't apply until July. About 6 months after I stopped working.
I still had to wait the usual 5 months but because I was able to show I hadn't worked for 6 months It was sent through pretty fast and again only had to wait about 7 weeks.
I talked to an attorney because I was worried about some financial issues.
They suggested I file on my own first and if I had any issues to contact them then.
I was happy for this advice as I had no problems at all and it saved me giving the attorney anything.
Turns out with SSDI they don't look at your banking account which is what the attorney told me.

Yes you should qualify as long as you are unable to work. You can apply for disability on your own it takes longer than thur a lawyer but it's free. If approved you will receive back payments from the date you applied. I had been on disability for 13 years due to my back. When I turned 62 it turned into Social Security. Best of luck!

I am applying for that right now myself. I'm still working part-time. From how I understand it you can, because one of the conditions is "a disease which is expected to result in death" (I don't even like saying that!) I also hired a law firm to take care of it for me so they must think I have a chance. It's one of those we don't get paid unless you get paid places so that's important to note.
