Because it’s your body, a second opinion is appropriate in my opinion. Next month, I’m requesting a Pet Scan as I won’t see my cancer treatment doctor until next May 2024 for my annual lung cat scan. Doctors are knowledgeable but they don’t know Everything!
My husband also has stage 4 lung cancer (Non small cell adenocarcinoma) He had 10 rounds of radiation and is now going through chemotherapy. He won't have any scans done until he has completed 4 rounds of chemo. When we asked the doctor he said to do a scan now would only show inflammation as the chemo makes the cancer inflamed. After 4 chemo treatments, each three weeks apart, he will have a scan. It will either show the cancer has shrunk or it hasn't. And those results will determine our next plan.
Please ask your doctor what the plan is for you. Everyone is different and there is no set-in stone treatment for cancer. Make a list of questions to take with you to your next appointment and write down the doctor's answers. If you don't understand the doctor's answer, ask him/her to explain. They are working for you and it's your life. If someone is available to go with you, please take them, it's good to have two sets of ears. I pray your next doctor's appointment gives you the answers and treatment plan that is perfect for you. God bless you.
With my stage 4 lung cancer, I finished radiation and then began chemo and immunotherapy together. Every 3 weeks and I’ve had 47 treatments so far. I have a CT every 9-12 weeks and a PET every 6 months. Best of blessings to you on your journey.
I'm not getting any chemotherapy. I'm taking medicine. It's called zalkori. I go see the doctor every 2 months.
Stage 4 you need a different oncologist. My stage 4 is stable so I get CT every 3-6 months and labs done monthly.
Will I need another PET scan? So far they are just doing a CAT scan every 6 months of just my chest.
