Last night (1/22/23) LisaHall asked the question that's been asked and answered many times before. Let's put all our responses in this thread so they might be more easily found in the future
If you would, describe (1) where it feels like your cough originates, (2) what it feels/sounds like, (3) whether it is "dry" or "wet" (produces mucus or phlegm), (4) how long does it continue (if it ever stops for a time), (5) does it cause pain, sleeplessness, interrupt your conversations, limit you… read more

Members shared practical strategies for managing chronic cough after cancer treatment, with many finding relief through combinations of Delsym, Mucinex, Robitussin, nebulizers with medications like Busonamide or DuoNeb, and natural remedies including ginger-lemon tea, local honey, Manuka Health lozenges, and mullein. Several members described their coughs as originating from the sinuses or upper chest, often producing mucus, causing choking episodes, interrupting conversations, and significantly disrupting sleep and daily life, with some experiencing pain so severe it felt like their brain was hitting their skull. A recurring theme was the frustration of trying multiple prescription and over-the-counter options with varying success, the lingering effects of radiation therapy on throat function, and the community's willingness to explore both medical treatments and natural approaches to find relief.

We are trying a DuoNeb in her Nebulizer now. It is supposed to open up airways and dry out the lungs. She is doing this every 6 hours (3x daily) and then doing a steroid in her nebulizer 2x daily. Just started will see how it goes and report back. Also bought some "organic lung health tea from the full leaf tea co. to try as well. She is also on Essiac which is known to shrink tumors but do your own research on that. We lien more towards natural when we can ❤️ Mullen tea or capsules is something else that's been recommended.

Theresa,
I was reading about ginger tea. Using fresh ginger root, lemon and honey. My cough isn't bad, just consistent. So, Im looking at remedies.
I've seen medical sites say prescription or OTC cough suppressants, drugs that help you clear mucus (if you have a wet cough), a Bronchodilator inhaler, a Nebulizer with lidocaine, and last but not least, opioid medication like morphine or codeine.
I'm forever prayerful,
Tony

I have been given benzonate.desylm and promethazine dm. Nothing helps all I do is cough until I throw up. Can't keep any food down. I have tried hot tea with honey 8 have used just honey does not help. One team member suggested a 2ml of whiskey and 2ml of honey one in morning one at night. I guess that's my next option. I was also given Flonase nose spray. If u find something let me know. Please and thank you.

Thanks @A MyLungCancerTeam Member,
In 2022-23, I coughed really bad, from the top of my chest. I'd get a gurgling feeling when I inhaled. Especially when I laid down. Robitussin worked pretty well. Enough to let me fall asleep, at least. My cough isn't as bad anymore and is more from the faulty epiglottis left from the radiotherapy. It allows food and liquids get into my airway if I'm not careful.
My throat gets dry really fast as I try to carry on a conversation. I have to take a drink of water if I speak more than 2 short sentences. Mouth gets dry while chewing food after a while, as well. All from the radiation. I've worn my voice out this past week talking with my step-daughter and her husband, and reading to their boy. He'll turn 2 next week and never shuts up. I think he speaks Yiddish.

@A MyLungCancerTeam Member it's spelled Mullein it's a garden herb. I tend to cough during conversation and have to wait for it to pass. Has mucus come up usually and also from sinuses that drain backwards. Dayquil, cough drops and vicks help. Mucinex. Cough a little worse since treatment started. Hot steamy showers or hot baths with eucalyptus or spearmint Epsom salts helps (I use Dr. Teals from Walmart). Mint or cinnamon/spice teas with some local honey help me too.
