Anthony thank you for this It's so helpful to me because I like to eat the exact same thing I enjoy eating bacon especially. But I noticed when I ate things high in fat I had to take statin for high cholesterol. Thank you for sharing. I guess my system has to get use to taking Creon. God bless you for your time and thank your wife for me for allowing you to share. Many Prayers.
I eat everything I like. I was on a statin for high cholesterol before I was diagnosed and it has kept it in check even eating bacon, dairy and ice cream. I also eat a lot of avocados and nuts. We eat pork and beef at least once a week. The rest of the time it's eggs, chicken and fish. Mashed potatoes and bananas are also good for putting on weight, as well as pasta. I don't like potatoes and pasta much. They gum up my mouth due to low saliva levels caused by radiotherapy, so we don't eat a lot of it. Bread is the same.
Hi Anthony when you say high fat diet what is that? Do you eat what you want or do you limit yourself?
God bless.
Hi Anthony thank you so much for your help I really appreciate this. I am trying to stay positive It's just that I worry so much about the losing weight. God bless you for explaining this is so very helpful. I have been taking Creon for 2 weeks now 24000.
My prayers and thoughts with you.
Good morning Sharon!
Did the GI doc prescribe Creon? It may list lipase, amylase and some other enzyme along with the amount of each. That is what take.
With pancreatic insufficiency (EPI), food is not fully digested so we don't get the nutrition we need. The pancreas goes into high gear trying to make the enzymes, becomes inflamed and cause pain.
It takes a bit of time to regain weight. You need a high-calorie, high-fat diet: It’s important to get enough calories and fat with your meals. Fat helps your body absorb nutrients. You may benefit from working with a dietitian.
Vitamins: You may need to take prescription vitamins to help your body maintain healthy nutrient levels. Your provider may prescribe vitamins A, D, E and K. People with EPI have a harder time absorbing these fat-soluble nutrients from food.

Sorry to say, but it is a lifelong problem. You'll have to take your pills before each meal the rest of your life. Weight gain may also be a problem.
Stay positive!
