Hi Mickeyfin thanks for the answer 🙏 He used Tagrisso for a little bit (2 weeks) and then took a break (for 10days) cuz he had fever and his PLT levels were low. Then he had fever again 3 days ago and started antibiotics but the oncologist called it pneumonia (the emergency doctor and chest doctor called it infection), so he might have to be hospitalized tomorrow (if his cough doesnt go away). It is going to be the first time he is hospitalized since cancer treatment began so I was wondering what is the standard procedure.
THey should take a sample and determine the bacteria and antibiotic needed. However chemo causes reduced neutrophils which fight infection. If his neutrophil count is too low he may need to be in hospital. There is a drug to increase neutrophils. Ask about Neulasta.
I was on the team that created that compound in the 1990s.
He must be treated properly as infection is present.

Pneumonia is an infection. It's either bacteria or virus caused. For bacterial, a run of antibiotics is used. For viral Pneumonia they might try one of the new antivirals. He should be in the hospital to make sure his oxygen levels don't drop and they can give him medicine to stop the coughing. Hope he feels better soon!!
