On August 13th my Dr called me and said my chest CT showed A 1" x 1½" mass lower right lung . I was expecting pneumonia (I get that easily due to my compromised immune system) but boy was I surprised. I never expected that
On August 18th I had my PET SCAN, that showed tumor in my lung as well as surrounded lymphnodes. On September 3rd I had my biopsy. The RESULTS were SMALL CELL CARCINOMA. I had my 1st appointment with an Oncologist on September 18th. Looks like surgery is NOT an option… read more
That is A LOT to take in. The brain MRI is standard to all new diagnosis so I wouldn't worry too much. I've had 2. One said no mets, just a cyst. The second was just to make sure. As for treatment, that is one you need to think on carefully. You can always stop treatment but typically if you refuse, you cannot change your mind. You are moved to hospice and that's it. Since you don't know how treatment will work or affect you, it's always best to try since you can stop at any time. I hope they have some kind of good news for you soon! At least you'll know what to expect.
Ronda, it sure sounds like you have been hit with a lot in a very short period of time. I am glad that the follow up testing and doctor appmts have been able to be arranged in timely fashions. I've had to wait several weeks for some of mine. I am sorry, I do not have small cell cancer, I had adenocarcinoma NSCLC. Once you get all of the tests results and meet with the radiologist and know more of what you are dealing with with, that should take some of the stress away. I hope and pray for the best possible outcomes from your upcoming appointments. Best wishes in your journey. Sue
Rhonda, how are you? Did you have the surgery biopsy?
Hubby, Larry had his June 20, and it was bam bam bam. Ct, pET scan, surgery biopsy, oncology, and start chemo. He has non small cell lung cancer, Adenocarcinoma with a EGFR mutation. But when he had the surgery crazy ugly canker sore looking things were all over. It was also spread in his pleura (lung sac) and lymph nodes, that makes it stage 4. Oncologist say there’s no cure, but want to keep it controlled. This Tue. 9/24 is his last chemo, #4. He has them every 3 weeks. Next is a CT scan to see if anything has changed or no change. Look for new growth and also in other areas. Next will be a targeted pill, every day and as long as he can tolerate it. We are hoping that’s the case and that the insurance will cover it.
Prayers you are doing good.
