Kind of. I was first diagnosed and treated for Stage 4 Squamous Cell Throat Cancer with neck lymph node involvement. However, 6 months before that dx, 9 lung nodules, all smaller than 6mm, were noted on a screening chest CT. These nodules slowly grew over 2 1/2 years into the tumors that were dx'd as Stage 4 Squamous Cell Lung Cancer. The biopsies were done at 2 different VA medical centers and they weren't able to compare the tissues genetically due to not enough remaining material from the first biopsy. So no definitive primary location, though we assume they are related.
As for prognosis, I can only say that I have shown no evidence of disease in the throat for 3 years, 10 months. I am doing well with the lung cancer, though I continue to have opacities show on the PET/CT scans and now have "numerous small nodules" detected in the lower lobes of each lung. So, the jury is still out on what my future looks like.
Treatment can be hard, but the Keytruda after the initial chemo is no problem for me.
Susan - What is your treatment plan. I pray they aren't going to have you do radiotherapy for the esophagus.
