I have multiple chronic illnesses and see different specialists. Suddenly, now that I’m on alectinib, they are refusing to treat me/deferring treatment to oncology. Which is useless because oncology is refusing to treat anything because they consider everything, including side effects from the meds, as “pre-existing conditions.” I’m left just feeling like an annoyance to everyone.
AJ I am so sorry that you are in this position. You are not an annoyance! Maybe the oncology folks can tell you who to see for your other issues if your current other specialists and PCP won't. Medicine has become so specialized that it is ludicrous at times. I have 2 primary cancers: lung and thyroid. I tried to see an oncologist and they refused to see me stating that thoracic surgeon is following lung cancer and endocrinology is following thryoid cancer so that I don't need an oncologist. Fortunately, I am ok with that I'm as I have a great PCP who handles any medically related issues that come up. Just crazy that oncology did not even want to see me for a consult. I do realize that there are many people who need them more than I do as I am stage 1 on both cancers. Best wishes you can get this resolved.
@aj2- Hi Aj, I would start back with your pulmonary doc and thoracic surgeon to get questions there. Don't give up. You have to have faith . Even go back to your PCP to get help. Prayers 💞🙏
