Members shared practical nutrition tips for supporting someone undergoing lung cancer treatment, with many recommending protein shakes, smoothies, yogurt, and Ensure Plus to maintain weight and strength when eating solid food becomes difficult due to throat pain or taste changes. Several members emphasized the importance of flu shots, wearing masks during cold and flu season, frequent hand washing, and staying home when possible to protect a vulnerable loved one from respiratory infections. A recurring theme was flexibility and compassion, letting the patient eat whatever they can tolerate on hard days while exploring helpful options like liquid lidocaine for throat pain, alkaline foods, and even warm comfort foods like cream of mushroom soup.

Arleen, I always get the flu shot because I've been severely ill and hospitalized with the flu. And, since I've been wearing a mask because of Covid, I haven't had either the flu or a cold. I've become a believer in masking and frequent hand washing and sanitizing.

Me also these last two years I swear by those masks I’ve been less sick and with my coughing people freak out on me so I love being at home but I mask everywhere all the time❤️🙏❤️Dawn Marie MacRaven

Withdrawal from the caffeine in coffee can be difficult. I suggest you allow yourself at least one cup in the morning.

Arleen Parkinson, Ideally you'd put your husband on a smoothie and juice diet with lots of leafy greens, salads, salmon, cut back on red meat. Try to get the book Chris Beat Cancer. He talks about beating cancer with diet. I drink alkaline water, celery juice, lots of roasted root vegetables (they are alkaline. I do a lot of alkaline foods based on the theory that cancer can't live in an alkaline body.
