At diagnosis my cancer was metastatic lung, brain and adrenal. After chemotherapy and radiation I was put on immunotherapy, Keytruda, and no progression for about 2 years. Unknown primary from the start, pancoast tumor, and no bio markers.

Yes, this combination is used for stage 4 NSCLC. Ipilimumab (Yervoy) and nivolumab (Opdivo) are both checkpoint inhibitors that work together to help your immune system fight cancer cells.
For stage 4 NSCLC that has spread to multiple sites in the body, including the adrenal glands, this combination is one of the treatment options. It can be used alone or potentially combined with chemotherapy.
How these drugs work:
- Nivolumab is a PD-1 inhibitor that blocks signals cancer cells use to hide from your immune system
- Ipilimumab is a CTLA-4 inhibitor that removes another "brake" on your immune system
- Together, they help T cells recognize and attack cancer cells more effectively
When lung cancer spreads to the adrenal glands, doctors typically use systemic treatments like immunotherapy because they work throughout the whole body. This approach helps people with lung cancer live longer and keeps the cancer from progressing as quickly.
Your treatment team likely chose this combination based on your specific situation, including how far the cancer has spread and your overall health.
