Stan! Well I am with you on this journey and as I said Penn medicine is my treatment center and it offers lots of support. You just need the correct phone number and contact name. Please stay in touch and let me know how it is going. I will find the link for some really great support groups that are offered through the oncology social work departments on zoom. I have been in a post treatment support group for over 6 months, and I am starting with a music therapy group next week. Anything I can do, please let me know. I schlep down to center city from Wilkes Barre. My daughter lives in west Phila and so I stay with her family when I have scans. Valley Forge has got to be easier than dealing with 34th and Spruce in a Monday morning!

I choose Penn Med. I have met with Dr's of Oncology and Radiation. Both were easy to talk with and understand. I choose to have Proton radiation treatment.
Because of a family vacation I won't be starting treatment until the middle of Aug. I will have 5 treatment scheduled every other day. I will be treated at there Valley Forge facility. That way I won't have to deal with the Schuylkill freeway!!
We will discuss the need for, or not, chemo after the radiation.

I am actually a patient at Penn Medicine. And I listen to the monthly lung cancer podcasts put out by MSK. So I am familiar with both. I chose Penn over Fox Chase or even my home based hospital Geisinger because I have a unique combo of EFGR biomarkers, exon 18 and exon 20. So unique that I only found 3 places worldwide where anyone is researching that combo. And I don’t plan to go to either France or China. The third location is UPenn and my oncologist and her boss are the principal investigators. Her boss is the big guy at Abramson Center. They are studying patients with those biomarkers who cannot have surgery. I had my tumor removed so I am not a candidate. But I tell her every time, well if it comes back at least I don’t have to explain what 18&20 is to you. Penn is very big and has lots of support options, but somewhat difficult to navigate because it’s so big. I have learned all the tricks to find the help I would like in the past year, so just ask me. Penn also has proton therapy for very pinpoint radiation which is wonderful. I had to have my surgery and chemo overseas because Covid was rampant in my home hospital during late 2021.

MSK is also highly regarded and I am impressed by their outstanding research and outreach efforts. But I am not a patient but I do participate in their lung cancer podcasts. . I am part of one of their research studies on depression in cancer patients who are over 70 years of age.

I think if you go to you tube you will find the annual UPenn conference on lung cancer as well as the podcasts from MSK.
