After 4+ years of no new nodules, a 4 mm nodule appears on ct. Oncologist says to rescan in 6 months. Has anyone else had this happen.
I personally wouldn’t wait. For I did when I was first diagnosed 3 years ago. A doctor said let’s rescan in 1 year we did and supposedly it didn’t grow. Finally within two weeks I saw a different doctor and I was in surgery 2 weeks after that! They found 2 spots on my left lung, spots on 3 lymph nodes. Did 3 months of radiation 5 days a week and chemotherapy 3 days a week. Then 6 months later spot in brain. Yes it has spread! I have SCLC. The fastest growing cancer you can have.
Please don’t wait have it checked!!
Never trust 4+ years or 5 or any amount. After my first cancer I had scans every 3 months, 4 months, 6 months, etc. On my 7 year checkup, another different type of cancer was found in my other lung. After 7 more years I was told I was cured. 14 years after that a new cancer was found again. I had had two lobectomies and couldn’t have surgery this time. I’ve been fighting this one for 4 years.
I thought after 4+ years I might be in the clear BUT I guess we never are.
Some relief for sure...but need to wait the 6 months for another scan. I will keep your kind words in mind
Hello Marcia,
Lung nodules are very common in general. They aren't necessarily cancerous. They may be a new, benign nodule or scar tissue from previous treatment. Your health care provider could look at past imaging tests to see if the nodule is new or in the same location as a previous nodule. Your doctor will have to monitor it by way of periodic CT scans to see if it grows (preferably every 3 months).
If a lung nodule is small and it isn't growing, it's not likely to be cancer. It probably doesn't need treatment.
Providers may be more worried about lung nodules and that grow over time.
If your nodule is growing, you might need more tests to see if it's cancer. This might include imaging tests, such as CT and positron emission tomography (PET) scans, as well as a biopsy.

I hope this brings some relief. Hope and a positive attitude are the secret I'm glad to share.
